Staying focused isn’t always easy, especially when you have a lot of deadlines and projects that need to be completed. We often make a lot of goals for ourselves and end up taking on more than we can handle. If you struggle with staying focused at work and can’t seem to find a solution that works for you, try these easy to follow tips for staying focused when all else fails.

Visualize Your Goals

The goals we make for ourselves are generally just ideas or thoughts in our head. For a lot of people, especially visual learners, it’s hard to see the path to a goal when you can’t visualize the goal itself. An easy way to turn the idea of your goal into a reality is by creating a vision board.

Vision boards are tools you can use to literally see your goals laid out in front of you. Creating on can be as simple or complex as you make it. A great way to start is by grabbing a board or poster paper and pasting on images, inspirational quotes, and other motivating things that relate to your goal. That way, whenever you look at your vision board you are reminded of why you want to achieve this particular goal and motivation to do so.

Staying Focused Means Stopping Multitasking

Studies show that in reality, on two percent of people are actually more productive when they start multitasking. That means that, for the rest of us, multitasking is making us less productive when common thought leads us to believe otherwise.

To stay focused when you have a lot of projects or tasks on your hands, it’s a good idea to prioritize what you need to do by importance and deadline. Then focus on one project at a time. You will be surprised at how fast and efficient you become at work when you put all of your energy into one project versus spreading yourself too thin.

Avoid Any Distractions

In today’s technology-driven world, it’s easy to get distracted by emails, texts, and notifications. Once you hear your phone buzz or see your screen light up, it’s natural for your first instinct to be to pick it up. But when you are constantly interrupting your work pattern and focus with social media and texting, it significantly lowers your productivity levels.

In order to avoid any major distractions, put your phone out of reach. Keeping your phone or mobile device inside your bag or tucked away in a desk drawer will make it easier for you to keep your focus on the task at hand. Out of sight, out of mind.
